does my 96 Infiniti I30T really need premium gas to run properly?

6

I was wondering if this type of car really needs a premium gas. because I had car stall on me at idle or at a stop and also a engine knock problem in the past and a friend told me it could be bad gas/ low grade gas, so I been putting premium ever since, but now with the gas price sky rocketting and economy still in the ditch I’m trying to conserve and avoid spending so much on premium gas. the manual says its recommends it, but a dealer mechanic says it needs it. so i would like someones opinion. either you’ve owned this type of vehicle or someone who really knows about car engines and gas

Oh yes most diffidently! I had a C20 silverado that required Premium gas, and I used to put regular unleaded, and it back fired and stalled on me alot. Till someone told me the problem.

yes you need to run the premium gas.if you don’t that knocking you hear will become you burning up a few of your valve.or even mess up the timing so you need to run the premium to keep the engine in running smooth

dont listen to yahoo asker. a Japanese car is different from a truck. Nissan cars and all cars can go on normal or super and run the same. the diff is they are not as cleaned gas(filtered). so they do not have the same combustion. But if your just doing normal driving, then it will only make your oil dirtier faster. just get an oil change a little bit sooner than usual every time and your car will run fine.

A car that runs on normal n puts in premium is bad. it will combust too soon or much will will make your car jerky and can damage pieces. that’s a no no.

No car needs premium fuel to run/drive.
Any car is able to run on regular fuel.
A car will run better, with more performance, and better gas mileage with premium fuel.
Also, be aware of the additives that are in gas. If you buy your fuel at a “no name” gas station, chances are it is cheaper gas for a reason. Additives are what makes the differences between cheap gas a good gas (besides the octane ratings). You won’t get engine knock if there are additives in the fuel.
Cheap gas does not contain the necessary additives for your car to run good. You will have no problems getting regular gas at name brand stations.
If you buy name brand regular gas for your infiniti, you will have no problems (as long as everything else is in working order).

P.S.
NEVER BUY/GET GAS WHILE THE GAS TANKER TRUCK IS UNLOADING FUEL INTO THE TANKS. THERE IS DIRT/GRIME/TRASH/RAGS/OTHER INSIDE OF THE IN GROUND TANKS THAT STORE THE FUEL. WHEN THE TANKER UNLOADS THE GAS INTO THE STORAGE TANKS, ALL OF THAT STUFF GETS SWIRLED AROUND AND MAY END UP INSIDE OF YOUR CAR’S GAS TANK. (granted, gas stations are “supposed” to have filters installed on the pumps, but some places dont follow the rules)
dont let anybody tell you that there isnt stuff inside of their storage tanks, unless they are brand new and never been filled before. there is always stuff in the tanks

Generally speaking the pcm is tuned for the recommended grade of gas (in this case 91-93 or above). So to optimize performance it’s best to use that grade. If it’s a v6 (which I assume it is) you should use premium regardless…or at the BARE minimum medium grade. Still…a v6 runs horribly on medium grade, it’s detroit “knock” city.

Short answer: yes.

Not quite so short answer: If your I30 behaves anything like mine, and there’s no reason to think it won’t, you’ll get poorer mileage with regular, to the extent that you won’t save any money at all, and you’ll be getting poorer performance to boot.
