Does dual exhaust save or hurt gas?

3

I have a 2001 dodge Dakota 4.7liter v8 4×4 and I want to get dual exhaust on it. But idk if installing dual exhaust will hurt or save me gas. Right now I average 12 miles per gallon in the city and 17 on the highway. So will dual exhaust hurt me or save me gas.

It will likely have little to no effect on fuel economy. IT will just make the thing louder.

If anything it helps. Because the less resistance your exhaust has the easier the engine can turn. Also results in more power.

We have dual exhaust on our 02 with the 4.7 – and its still a pig on gas. What you save on gas won’t pay for the exhaust, it’ll be a net loss. It sounds great, but its still a V8 pickup truck.
