Does coasting in neutral save any gas?
We have a Suburban which is costing a fortune right now for gas. If I put the car in neutral to and coast a certain distance, over time will that save any gas compared to coasting in drive without the foot on the pedal? What methods save gas besides getting a new car?

no, the car uses petrol when its ticking over, quite alot actually + you have no control over it in neutral, 55 MPH is the cheapest speed to go at, just thank yourself luck you arnt in the UK, petrol is at £1.06 per litre thats more than $2.00
drifting in neutral will save gas.since it is an automatic trans. newer than 1965 the trans.does not have a rear pump and does not pump in neutral;therefore it can do damage to trans.manual trans.are ok to coast in neutral.cruise control saves most gas.keep tire air pressures full.smoothest tire tread designs save too and grip good still in 4 wheel drive conditions.larger size wheels and higher profile skinny tires help too.some 2007 vehicles have 20 inch wheels to increase gas mileage.
I would say probably not also there is a safety issue. By coasting in neutral If you had a emergency situation and needed to accelerate you might be in trouble. With a vehicle like a suburban as with any vehicle. The best way to save gas is to keep the car in its best running condition, such as tune ups keep the tires properly inflated. Put a good gas treatment in it once in a while. The bottom line is you are only going to get so many miles per gallon as with any other car. And one other thing you driving habits. Don’t be a lead foot.
