Does coasting damage your car engine or transmission?

2

When i drive i often take the car out of gear and just coast in neutral to save fuel and rest my feet. I’ve been told that this can damage the car in some way but i fail to see how??? All im doing is free wheeling….

So, does coasting in neutral damage the car? If so how, when, and why.

I understand that the UK highway code advises against it, but then again i disagree with half of what they advise.

no, it can’t damage the car, just don’t downshift instead of brake.

No it does not……. but it is not recommend and in many places illegal because you now have less control over the vehicle in a emergency situation where every 1/2 second counts. Popping the car into gear and waiting for the tranny to engage as the torque converter gets up to speed could cost you a second, and your life.
