Does anyone here go out of their way to save money at gas stations?
It amazes me when I see people lining up at stations that are selling gas at a lower price, the average gas tank is about 18 gallons, lets say a dealer is 5 cents per gallon or even 10 cents a gallon cheaper, even if your tank is bone dry,the money you will save is 90 cents @ 5 cents and $1.80 for 10 cents off. I wish these people would think.Unless this station is on your normal route, your actually losing money.

Your right. That’s about as logical as someone who would drive another 10 miles to buy a can of food that is ten cents cheaper than a local store.
not me ! i just pull in the gas station and get my gas. what,s the use of driving around looking to save maybe a couple of pennies.
In actual fact for a 3 miles detour I save $30 on a full tank every week, which at the end of the year pays for almost 2 years insurance.
I drive 30 miles out of my way twice a month to save 60 cents a gallon by buying 40 gallons e85 for my truck.
I don’t go “out of my way” but when I’m driving I keep my eye on the gas prices and when I need gas, I pull into the station with the lowest price. It may only be $1 or so as you say but, if you stretch that over a year you’ve managed to save the cost of a couple of fillups. What amazes me is to see people who wait in line to get to the pump when the station across the street is $0.10 a gallon cheaper and I see it all the time. I also have the Gas Buddy.com site on my computer so I can compare prices around the local area. Some of us are on fixed incomes and small savings make the difference between paying the bills or not.
Good point. You just have to do the math in your head to figure out what it cheaper. I believe that it is sometimes worth going a few miles out of the way as long as you are filling up the whole tank.
I use gasbuddy.com to check for the best price and then plan when I’m going to be near that particular gas station.
I probably save $25 a month doing this.
