If you are driving on the HWY, it is better to use the AC and close the window.

But on the street driving, it is definitely better to turn the AC off and drive with the window open.

This is all for better MPG – of course.

Good Luck…

It’s a wash between turning the windows down and using the A/C at 60 mph on the open highway due to the increased air resistance of having your windows open.

yes, but not enough to offset the uncomfortable heat. If you want to save gas, change the air filter element frequently, make sure the tuneup components are not deteriorating, if you have a belt driven cooling fan, remove it and install an electric fan. this will decrease engine load and increase performance as well

you,ll save a little but not much ,having the windows down creates a drag and causes the car to use more gas,so it cost very little to actually operate the air conditioner, but anything that pulls the engine down some will make it use more gas,but the amount is very little, and its not worth burning up over,id use the air if i had it,you wont notice it using that much more gas, good luck.

Not really. If you turn off the AC you will prob. roll the windows down. Rolling the windows down will increase drag/change the aerodynamics. AC on windows up will always get better mileage than ac off windows down.

I don’t know if it will save gas, but it will make your battery last a little bit longer.

Recent studies show that using a/c increases gas usage, but driving on the highway with windows down uses more gas as the force of the wind will drag down the speed of the car. If you are in the city you may want to save gas by turning off the a/c .

Running your car A/C is the biggest use of fuel after your car engine which uses the most.

When gas was about $2.50 a gallon it was a wash weather to run the A/C or not run the A/C and leave your windows open. At the price of gas reaching $4.00 a gallon and higher, there is no question what to do, keep the A/C off and open the windows. You will be guaranteed to save money.

Run the A/C once a month for 10 minutes for 12 months to keep all the seals lubricated. You don’t want everything to dry out and leak because you don’t run the A/C.
