Do You Really Save Gasoline If You Let A Car “cruise” Down The Block To A Red Light, Outta A Parking Spot, etc?
Cruise meaning not stepping on the gas pedal but letting the car move by itself? The car is from the 1990s, automatic transmission.

Yes you save gasoline, especially if you put it in neutral,
It makes sense because your engine is just idling, at a much lower rpm, like when you have your foot on the gas.
Gradual acceleration does conserve gas. I drive a Prius, and still try to accelerate and decelerate smoothly. The computer does show a difference. (ave 47mpg)
no!
Yes actually you can save gasoline that way because, gasoline is a combustible. The more you accelerate the more gasoline is burned. So, cruising will help burn less gas.
Of course it would save on fuel. Like you said, stepping on the gas pedal, means just that… when you step on it, gas is fed into the engine and burned. if you dont step on it less gas is fed into the engine and burned, therefore you would be saving on gas…
If you’re really that desperate to save a few cents on gas, check out this story from MSN. It is about “Hypermilers” that have figured out ways to get around 80 mpg in cars rated for only 30 mpg cars(and even 200 mpg in cars rated for 60 mpg) using both legal and illegal practices.http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Sav…
