disable cylinder to save gas?
Hi All,
I have a 1998 Wrangler sport. 4.0L 6 Cylinders. I would like to disable 3 cylinder to save some gas. Anyone did that?
I assume the 6 cylinders, each one contribute to 60 degree and
I disable one and other. then each cylinder contribute to 120. The motor should still running smoothly. Am I correct?

You’ll have to completely reprogram the PCM to work within those parameters. I’m sure it’s possible but I doubt you have the expertise OR the cash to make it happen. If you did you wouldnt be worried about the price of gas. Sorry.
No, first of all the unburned gas would filter down into your oil thinning it out like water and you would either burn up the main bearings or throw a rod. Your engine would run like crap if it ran at all, the best way to save gas is to consolidate your trips in your car and try not to drive it if you don’t have to. Keep it well tuned, a synthetic oil might get you a mile or two a gallon more, do not use your A/C , it robs you of at least 10% gas mileage.
If it has an injector for every cylinder disconnect it. However this is only good if you are driving on flat land at low speeds. The motor would not run very good and it is probably not good for the motor and fuel savings would be little.
It will be way underpowered but disconnecting the fuel injector is the way to do this. It may not idle at all though. Check the firing order and disable every other one.
THAT IS THE MOST RETARDED THING I HAVE HEARD. NO IT WONT WORK, YOU WILLL DESTROY THE ENGINE IF YOU TRY. FIRST YOUR OIL WILL GET CONTAMINATED, SECOND YOU WILL HAVE NO POWER, 3RD YOU PROB WILL BURN MORE GAS CAUSE THE COMP WILL CALL FOR MORE FUEL TO BE BURNED. IN OTHER WORDS BUY A SMALLER CAR
