Car gas mileage is horrible now! Had an allignment done, tire rotation, tire psi is fine, but gas mpg is 20.?
I have a 2001 Honda Civic, and I use to easily get at LEAST 30 mpg, maybe even 35 (I do all highway driving, and very rarely do i drive in the city)
I don’t take off like a maniac, I drive normal, and conserve gas as best I can. I have noticed lately that my gas milage is only like 20 mpg at BEST. I got an alignment (they showed me the papers, they had all tires to .01, almost perfect), my car still does pull to the left (The car was in an accident with its previous owner and I believe the body of the car or frame is bent), checked my tire pressure, its perfect. Tires have around 15k miles on them, normal wear, nothing big.
I noticed recently that my gas mileage is terrible!! I don’t know if it’s just because it’s the winter or what, but it has to change; my 98 Taurus got better gas mileage.
I was thinking maybe my car was arcing out, but I don’t notice any hesitation when I’m driving; OEM plugs and wires on the car….
any ideas?
Thanks!
Also, I just had my air filter changed, and I use synthetic oil only in my car and that is fine as well.

If you aren’t letting your car idle excessively, I would recommend a good tune up along with a air filter and fuel filter change. This should clear up any issues with fuel mileage.
When was the last time the engine was tuned up? You probably need to at least replace the spark plugs, air filter, pcv valve and change the oil and filter. Do all of that and see how it does.
it is possible that the cold weather has something to do with the loss of fuel mileage but id be more inclined to think that you have a dirty air falter and your car isn’t breathing properly along with getting a set of plugs and air filter perhaps you might like to change your cap rater plug weirs and plugs and have the car tuned up and adjusted like the air fuel mixer val eve may also be faultier and not allowing your car to get the air that it should or possible it is running on the cold start injectors and not changing over to the warm injectors but id have it checked out
what shape is the air filter? if it,s all dirty then that alone can make it suck gas. what about the brakes? maybe you have 1 hanging up and holding you back.
Like everyone is suggesting, a good tuneup. I have a 2001 civic, and I get 40 to 46 mph. As for the pull to the left could be a dragging brake. At one time my civic picked up an object and got caught in the air intake before the air filter. One other suggestion is the sending units, O2 and Temperature for the computer, if their not making the loop the engine will use more fuel cause the computer thinks the engine is always cold.
