Generally Speaking, Automatic Cars Use More Petrol. I Aren’t Sure Why :S They Just Do

the manual will transmission will use more gas because you have to rev it Lot so it move.
Don’t waste your time trying. The shift points on an automatic are already optimized for maximum fuel efficiency. It is doubtful that you could improve on that.
If you are a highly experienced driver that know exactly when to shift and do so smoothly without the revs, a standard is overall cheaper to operate. That would be about 10% of the drivers on the road, and most of them would be truckers or race professionals. For the rest, its an automatic for best mileage, and they are optimized for the best mileage already. Going through the shifts manually will decrease the efficiency. There are some cars that have a transmission that you can shift through manually though they are automatic, but they are just for the feel, not efficiency. Put it in drive and leave it there. If you are on ice or snow, put it in second to prevent slip when starting out, then into drive after you are rolling. If you are stuck in the mud, then first till the wheels move, then back to drive. That’s why the selections are available.
