Can saving gas save American lives?
My friend told me that if her hybrid car saves 10 miles per gallon over 20,000 miles it will save 2000 gallons of gas, or about $5000 to $6000 dollars, at least $4000 of which would have been purchased from places like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, etc. She says that by supply and demand, these gas purchases work into the hands of terrorist countries like Iran who use oil profits to buy weapons to shoot at our troops and regular civilians. Seriously, though, when I go to get gas for my car, is that bascially helping terrorists? I’m a little scared by that because I know a lot of people with big horsepower engines just for fun who don’t think about these things. Is this a way we can help America?

It won’t help a bit. If you don’t buy the gas, someone else will.
not buying from valero will help America… other than that the whole theory is left wing crap
Also, if we didn’t need their oil, we would not be sending our troops over to the Middle East.
Your friend is wrong, and here’s why:
1. Hybrids don’t necessarily get better mileage than a similar gas-only economy car. It all depends on the driving habits of the person.
2. Hybrids cost more than an equivalent gas-only car. It would take about 4-5 years to recoup your savings on gasoline to justify the price difference.
3. The gas you buy is a mixture of petroleum from many sources, so it cannot be determined which fuel is “terrorist” fuel, for the most part.
4. People have the right to buy cars that suit their needs. If that means high performance, so be it. Do you know how much mileage a Corvette can get on the highway? Before you or anyone else judges, you must get all the facts, or perhaps one day someone will be judging you on your clothing, or your computer, or what-not. It’s not anyone’s business to judge personal purchases; let’s let the free market determine what’s best.
5. Americans need to adjust their behavior. Hybrids are not the savior some think they are. And most people have no clue about cars but like to think so (thinking specifically of the anti-SUV crowd) – don’t fall into that trap!
