If so, how long shall I wait before doing so? I have a 1998 Chevy Venture Minivan with 6 cyl.

no.. you can’t save that much

it is according to how long you will be in line it takes as much gas to crank it as does to wait for two minutes.

Well you not only save gas but you also save environment by making less pollution so please do shut off you car while in line. No need to wait just do it when you see a high traffic line in front of you.

What you save will be minimal at best. Most cars WASTE the most fuel on start up of the vehicle. The claim is if you are going to be in the same spot for over 2 minutes, it will save you gas to shut off the engine, otherwise you won’t be benefiting in any way and there won’t be any environmental advantage either.

no,you use more gas each time you start your car.

What most ppl said. Depends on how long you’ll be standing in line, if it’s too short there is not point. Just a thought, have you tried coasting? If you’re stuck in traffic going downhill, and have a transmission that allows you to do so, i.e. manual most of the time, you might save considerable amount of gas that way. Just be careful don’t try on steep hills and if your hand brake doesn’t work that well… =]

You shouldnt shut your car off if your waiting for a traffic light to change,if an ambulance of fire truck comes then you cant get out of the way. If you have to wait for a long train to pass or you wont be moving for more then 3 minutes then you should shut it off.

Love to save gas @ 1:05 pm #

I keep 10 clams a week in my pocket, just by driving a little slower. I found the MPG Gas Calcu-Saver apple a-p-p which calculates the exact minutes of extra drive time for your commute and it showed me that just a couple of extra minutes a day can really cut gas use. Most drivers only take 2 or 3 extra minutes to get to and from work.
