Can I remove a fuel injector to save gas if my car is only running on 3 out of 4 cylinders anyways?
I have a 96 Saturn SL-2. I took it to a mechaninc. He said the rings are shot on one of the cylinders and there is no compression. I have noticed my fuel cunsumption has gone up since I started having this problem. Is there anyways I can remove a fuel injector for that cylinder to keep the engine from dumping/wasting gas into a bas cylinder? I am looking for a temp fix to keep the car going to get back and forth to work. I am saving for a new vehicle and don’t want to spend 900 dollars to get it fixed. It is more money than the vehicle is worth.

either fix it or park it/because of engine design what you want to do is stupid and dangerous
you can but you won’t be saving any gas, because if it has a dead cylinder then it has to push the extra weight.
the computer will sence an error and it will never be right,,,fix it or junk it..sorry
Rather than remove the injector (which will create a vacuum leak) you could unplug it, although I don’t think this will solve your problem as the other 3 cylinders will be working harder. Good luck.
Yes you can unplug the injector for that cylinder so its not dumping gas into a dead cylinder. I will not bring back you fuel economy because you are still dragging a dead cylinder but it will help.
