Comments on can I pull two spark plug wires and safely run my 6 cylinder engine on 4 cylinders to save gas?
no
No gas is injected whether the spark plug ignites them or not.
But worse yet, if you were to pull 2 spark plug wires (1) the computer will think you have misfire and the check engine light will come on – failing any inspection (2) the cat converter will get fouled up.
Good Luck…
lol, no
Your dashboard will light up like a christmas tree (warning lights). That is, if the car will start and run at all. Most likely it won’t run at all.
You can do it if you want, but I can guarantee you that your car won’t run. If it was one, it would be kind of ok to run but in the long run, it is not going to help you with fuel and power saving for your car. And it may give you more uncommon problems… My best advice to you is not to do it, and try to find alternative ways that can help you to improve the performance of you car that will save you on gas too.
Yeah go ahead and knock yourself out. But the $800 you spend replacing the catalytic converter will more than outweight the money you won’t save on gas since those cylinders will still fill with fuel whether they have spark or not.
1. The engine will burn more gas
2. You will damage the catalytic converter
3. You will destroy the coil.
4. The unburned fuel will get past the rings and dilute the oil. Thereby damaging the engine bearings.
5. The difference in temperature may warp the heads and blow the head gasket.
No it would run like crap
No unfortunately you would only have four of them hitting and then the other two would not and your poor car and engine probably not have the power and besides the gas would still be shooting onto the ones that didn’t fire. Although in the old days some people would pull a wire off a 8 cylinder to make people think they had a big cam in the engine. If they did get down on it it normally backfired. Do what I do and find a rich girlfreind. Naw just kidding. You could get leaner jets for the carburator, but now a days they have that already set up, the only other choice is to see if they can put a chip in the car that might boost your horse power. Good luck and once they let them drill in Alaska and in the Gulf of Mexico, before the other countries drill it all, there will be enough oil to offset about 25% of imports. If you decide to get a diesel beware. the reason it is ten % or more higher is that they are adding ethanol to regular gas, this burns, but is just filler and you get 10% less milage. So theoritically if the gas cost $4.00 and has the ethanol, then add 10% or it really costs $4.40 a gallon. In the old days they started selling it in the cheaper independants and I used to see the price was aobut 10% less and said great. But checking the milage I noticed I got less power and 10% or more less miles per gallon. Now they are all putting it in, it’s just filler. When corn gets too high I guess they will make it out of Bannanas….Take care.
