Comments on Buying A Fuel Efficient Station Wagon – What Do You Recommend?
Choose between a Pontiac and a Toyota (30 mpg city / 36 mpg highway) if you’re buying a fuel efficient station wagon. The Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Matrix are both the result of a JV between Toyota and General Motors. They come equipped with Toyota engines though a lot of the design and engineering is from General Motors.
Both Matrix and Vibe are versatile station wagons. With a fuel efficient 1.8L 4 cylinder engine that produces 126hp, these cars aren’t going to win a street race although they make up for it with smoothness, efficiency and refinement.
You can’t really call it a station wagon because it’s not as ugly or wide as a station wagon but the 1992-1995 Honda Civic VX Hatchback is what I usually recommend to people looking to get a fuel efficient car since they get better mileage than even a Toyota Prius at 48/55 mpg.
