Best mix of performance/fuel economy in a car?
Hello all. I am currently looking into a first care for myself. I have been driving for around 3 years now and am saving up for a car and my budget will be around 15,000. I want a car that will be a lot of fun to drive yet will not run up my gas bill. Any suggestions? If it helps, for the past 3 years i have been driving my parents subaru impreza rs. Thanks for any help!

Depends what you consider good fuel economy. You can get about 25 MPG out of an LS1 Camaro or Trans Am. They have 350 HP.
I too am currently looking for a car with great performance and not bad on milage.
right now my daily commute is about 6 miles from home to school an d back and 1 mile to work and back home. I drive a ’96 Explorer V6 w/ 4×4 and I get roughly 11 miles to the gallon (to my best estimate but right now im actually keeping track of gallons put in and how many mile traveled)
Im currently looking at a Dodge Charger R/T 4 door sedan w/ 5.7L Hemi V8 w/ MDS (MDS -Multi Displacement system, shuts down 4 of your 8 cylinders when cruising at consistant speed or slowing down gradually to cut down on fuel) Has 340HP and a 5speed auto-stick (can shit manually by pushing shifter to the right) and does the 0-60 in about 6.0sec but i’ve heard with proper shifting around 5.3 seconds. and even though its a V8 it get between 22-25MPG and from my 11MPG thats damn good. but the 2.7L gets up to the 30′s but isnt so much performance.
The Other car im looking at is the Mustang GT its a 4.6L V8 with 300HP and if you dont mind driving a manual get up to 27MPG. and with an Auto transmission around 24MPG. Does 0-60 in about 5.0sec.
Depends on if you like tuning cars (mustang) or just a comfortable stylish ride (charger) also charger has the best warranty of any car out there. has dodge/chrysler’s unlimited powertrain warranty.
then again if you prefer imports thats another story…im not to familiar with imports but i know they put up some pretty solid numbers as well. in the HP and MPG category
As Chad said the LS1 Camaro/Fbird get’s pretty fair gas mileage for such an engine. Plus the LS1 doesn’t have all those electronic gadgets to make the engine run on 4 cylinders on the highway….if that system fails you can bet it’ll be costly as hell to fix.
I had a 2001 Z28 and don’t ever recall the gas tank being a negative.
Acura RSX
the RSX’ 2.0-liter engine produces 155hp @ 6500rpm. That while traveling 27 miles per gallon in the city and 34mpg on the highway.
