0 MPH with the engine off.
It differs from car to car but for most modern cars the highest efficiency is around 50-60mph.
It really depends on your vehicle and your driving habits.
The best bet: Read your owners manual.
For example:
I had a 1995 Ford F-150 and the optimal speed was between 55 and 60.
I currently own a 2001 Ford Escape and the optimal speed is actually between 55 and 60 AS WELL AS between 70 and 75.
The most economical speed would be the lowest speed you can maintain in your highest gear.
If your vehicle can get into the highest gear at 45 mph, that’s your speed. The car has to use less force to push its way through the air in front of it and the engine is turning at the lowest rpm for that speed. The faster you go, the more energy you spend on pushing through air. That’s the reason it takes so much horsepower to break 200 mph.
A quote from the website below:
Slow down: 40-55mph is the most economical speed (at 70mph you use 30% more fuel than at 50mph)
