Are there any good fuel additives in the retail market that really work?

Most of them claim that they will save fuel, lower exhaust emmissions, clean engine and increase performance. But are they really good? If thery are so good why big oil companies do not put them in the fuels they sell to public?

Occasionally an injector cleaner is a good idea. But other than that and Sta-bil for storage of fuel, I’d save the $.

There is one product called Seafoam that if used as directed can make a ton of difference in an older vehicle, it’s $8 a can and can be found at any auto parts store, I have been a mechanic for a long time and this stuff is one of those secrets you have to be let in on, if you know what I mean.

104+ is the best octane booster out there. One of the better Fuel Injector cleaners is FIC mad e by PB Blaster. To remove water from fuel any of the isopropyl Alcohol based gas driers work well. The big oil companies do add many things to their fuels to enhance them but some are cost prohibitive and not necessary for every vehicle in every situation. The claims of increased mileage, performance and decreased emissions are usually just marketing hype but, there is a need for fuel additives for certain situations. Just don’t expect them to perform a miracle.

Seafoam is the only thing I know that works to clean. The gas mileage saving scam is just a repeat of 1972. They claimed that putting a magnet that cows swallow will increase your fuel mileage.

Alot of things that claim they increase gas mileage actually reduces gas mileage, for example K&N Air filter and a tornado intake. A K&N air filter lets more air in, which the computer reads, and pumps more fuel to compensate to get the right Air/Fuel Ratio. A tornado intake creates a distrubance in the air flow and ruins the atomization of the air/fuel mix.

yes chevron with techron. it cost around 10-20 bucks. gas companys do put in aditive.but all gas is not the same.your high end fuel[ mobil, exxon] add extra additives when the product is loaded onto the tank truck for del to the store.[this is your extra cleaning agents].
where your low end gas has no extra additives or cleanin agents added.all gas is the same.its refined and loaded into the storage tanks then to the truck where the extra additives are added.
so paying extra for that mobil or exxon may just help ya.try steepin up to 89 octane rateing and about once a month run 93 octane.
now all fuel is dirty.meaning when it goes from storage tank to del truck their is sand and some condensation in it.[the bottom of the storage tanks are covered with sand on purpose]. with a little bit of filtration to it.
now the truck delvers the fuel to the store.the final filtration takes place at the gas pump when u buy it.
hope this will help you understand more about gasoline.yes you have to pay extra at the pump for the cleaning agents.run the techron additive.can find it at autozone and orilleys.it does work.runit through twice and pay extra for a name brand gas. i use the techron twice a month and use modil super in my 88 transam and get 24 mpg.
