Yes. Thanks to Bush/Cheney/Oil Loving Corp who lead the economy to bankruptcy.

sandee s @ 7:22 am #

I would assume that those who can afford to get a new vehicle will do so….but should this really be in the elections section?

Mr. Know It All @ 7:48 am #

No; it is the American way to find solutions to problems, rather than give in and deem the problems ‘unfixable’.
That is a quitter attitude that has never been a trait of Americans.

Tommorow Belongs to Me @ 8:27 am #

Thats the point of withholding the oil from us, is it not?

Joey @ 9:16 am #

Only if they have half a brain.

Nadia @ 9:39 am #

I certainly hope so! I never understood the reason so many people gravitated to SUV’s in the first place other than the fact they became the “thing” to own, so everyone jumped onboard.

Joey R @ 10:15 am #

No

alexa @ 10:40 am #

No, I like my 2002 Audi A4 with a V6 high-combustion engine. Sorry. (:

We DON’T have a gas shortage .. we just have a gas cost problem.. What difference does it make to you what vehical anyone drives? I believe thats their business….

zoya k @ 11:25 am #

i heard that their bringing back the old bikes that you put in gas but once you run out you can pedal

it’s a sad situation for those of us that have a need for a big SUV and would love to be able to get a car that can seat more than 5, with room for luggage. until the sixe of my family shrinks, i am stuck with a big SUV and super high gas prices. Bush sucks and he spent 8 years screwing the country.

StatenIsland Guy @ 12:18 pm #

Not me, I love my H1. So sorry many people were “keeping up with the Jones” and cannot afford.

Pink Tresses @ 1:03 pm #

I already do that, it is common sense.

Sage Bluestorm @ 1:57 pm #

I did about three years ago when we were ready to get a new car and got a Prius.

I can not believe people are still buying Hummers and such.

You can even get Hybrid SUVs now. With those choices why would anyone not get a fuel efficient vehicle. There is one for almost any purpose.

Hopefully the next administration will install some policies that will entice the auto companies to make more fuel efficient vehicles a standard.

The percentage of my income spent on gas today is way under what I was spending in 1973. I’ll keep my SUV. I can’t get out of my road in the winter without 4 wheel drive, and I can’t carry my tools for work in a Honda Civic.

Ajay Hussein @ 2:58 pm #

I hope so. I heard on the radio this morning from a man who had a Ford Excursion that was only a few years old, the blue book value was $24,000, but when he tried to trade it in the most anyone would offer him was $11,000.

Ford is suspending SUV production lines because they can’t move them off the lots.

kaymay @ 3:54 pm #

yeah i will as soon as you take over my payments on it (because you know i’ll get alot in resale.) and buy me something else that fits 2kids and their friends and 1/2 the girl scouts and 1/2 the softball team to. thanks. alot of people didn’t buy these things because we like to suck up the gas. or damage the environment. or whatever. by the way you people aren’t putting the gas in it I AM!

missjellybaby @ 4:36 pm #

i have kids and NEED an suv- believe it or not i wasnt just trying to keep up with the rich and greedy- i was just trying to accomodate to my families needs. now i can barley afford to drive anywhere with gas prices as high as they are and i cant afford to get a new car right now. but i’d like to go ahead and say thank you to bush- i love being even more poor than i already was!!

vote democratic

Tom J @ 5:08 pm #

we’re already seeing it happen

sacha s @ 5:47 pm #

well some people are geting rid of them because of gas prices . but still is going to be alot of suv’s around for a longtime .

cathdew71 @ 6:38 pm #

I have suv but its not a hog its 6 cyclinder and my husband is 6ft 8ins not many cars he can sit comfortably. If american citizens would stand up to the politicians instead of moaning and not doing nothing and just accepting what is said to them look at europe last weekend they stopped everything by protesting and will continue to do so. is the economy going to be so bad before any citizens unite and do something.

heartintennessee @ 7:13 pm #

It would certainly be indicative of increasing levels of personal responsibility, but I’m not sure some will make that decision of their own accord. People tend to become complacent and comfortable with what has become “normal” in their lives–and for all the talk of “change” they just don’t want it to affect THEM. It also seems that in general, we have a hard time identifying the differences between NEEDS and WANTS.

Frankly, it might be a good thing, at least in terms of the environment (and no I’m not a tree hugger), that we are now forced to be more aware of the consequences of our behaviors.

bj @ 7:53 pm #

I doubt it. There’s a private school down the street for kids and every afternoon I see the parents come to pick up their children. These people are all driving expensive SUV’s.

They must have money if they can afford a private school plus a house, car payments & insurance.
The extra amount they pay for gas I think is not hurting them, it’s us middle class people who are hurting. I don’t think these people will give up their $50,000 Cadillac Escalade with it’s 400 horsepower engine any time soon.

hamik a @ 8:48 pm #

nope, expect to see more ss chevelle’s on the streets :D ! with the 454 :D !
