Yes very simple – no need to spend any money (or may be few dollars).

First get your car in shape (good tuned up condition), good tire pressure, etc.

Now here the way to say up to 38% on gas. This was on a Morning TV show (NBC). You basically

(1) drive slow – don’t go too far past 55
(2) accelerate slowly
(3) don’t brake unnecessarily
(4) use cruise control – whenever it is safe to do so.

it is that simple. Saving 38% is like paying just $2.75 per gallon (when gas is $4).

=== It really works ===

I drove down from Boston to NYC and the trip was 210.5 miles and I just used 5.112 gallons using the above tips. That’s 41 MPG. And that’s with a old 94 Civic with 187K mile (in good maintained condition).

WOW !!!.

Good Luck…

=== The ABOVE FIGURES ARE VERY ACCURATE ===

This is how I measured it:

(a) fill the tank to the max
(b) get on the HWY – late night / no traffic hour
(c) drive about 20 to 30 miles (at 55 MPH) – long is more accurate.
(d) use cruise control – very important
(e) note the EXACT MILES
(f) get off and immediately get gas
(g) note the EXACT GALLONS

Now you can calculate the MPG by
MPG = MILES (step e) / GALLONS (step g).

The reason you start out with full tank is that is the “repeateable” condition. You want to avoid traffic so you don’t use the brakes on the HWY. Braking will negatively affect the MPG calculation. You use the cruise control so you and eliminate your driving habit as a factor.

Without a good MPG calculation you might be wasting your money chasing ghosts. Also you can repeat this test anytime you feel like you car is not running right. You can also try the same thing but off the cruise control to check how much your driving habit affect the MPG. etc.

Yes, just sit home and don’t go anywhere and don’t drive your car. Very simple.

Drive at night. You won’t get held up in traffic jams and waste gasoline.
If there are no cars tailgating you, you can take your foot off the accelerator and coast down hills.

making sure your tires are properly inflated and driving 60 mph instead of 70 or 80 can make a big difference.

Yes. Stay home and off the road. If you follow the advise of the first person you are going to be blocking traffic and probably will get run over or off the road,

Take any unnecessary weight out of your car (another reason to lose extra pounds) — NOT your spare tire. “For every extra 100 pounds you carry in your vehicle, you reduce gas mileage and fuel economy by roughly 2%.”
When it’s hot out, use air conditioning rather than opening your windows (on the highway; open the window at less than 45 mph).
Check your tire pressure and get a tune-up.
Don’t use drive-throughs — when you’re idling, you’re getting ZERO mpg.

There is lots of tips out there to save gas. There is the top 10 gas savings tips at summergassavings.com.

I personally recommed going the speed limit to save gas. For example, you use 11% less gas by going 55MPH instead of 65MPH
