All americans know that slower driving saves gas. Why do 90% of american’s routinely exceed the speed limit?
I drive on the freeway daily. I set my my cruise control at the speed limit of 65mph. I get passed by 90% of the other cars on the road. If americans were concerned by high fuel costs shouldn’t they slow down? Thus saving money? My opinion is that most americans don’t care. They just want to complain!

agree. just like all the gas sucking status vehicles on the road
“most Americans don’t care”
You answered your question, but I think that’s 100% right
You can also say they b**** about gas prices, when they’re driving a Hummer H2 or some other gas guzzler.
People are in such a hurry to get somewhere when in reality they are only gaining 1 minute per 6 miles going 10mph over the limit, yet wasting as much as 28 cents per gallon per mile. Ridiculous. I drive the posted limit and i am getting every mile per gallon my van is supposed to get (28-32mpg). Even in the left lane on the interstate, i drive the posted speed limit. That really ticks off a lot of people, but too bad for them.
It’s the government, they don’t want to spend more money on the roads than they have to. They also know the higher the average speed the more cars the roads can handle, soo they don’t inforce the speed limit and let people drive 10-15 mpg faster..
You can actually get better mileage following the pack at 70, than leading it at 65..
i believe that you are slightly mis informed, optimum fuel efficiency is achieved at roughly 70mph. but i agree with some of what you are saying doing the speed limit is a joke to so many, i have been passed by a cop with no lights on, he was easily going 15 mph faster than i was, at 65.
Here is a fact that some of these guys either don’t understand or refuse to admit. The BEST fuel mileage is attained at the speed at which overdrive AND torque converter lockup occur. On MOST vehicles, THAT happens around 50MPH.
On MY car, it’s 45MPH, and I get the best mileage at that speed.
Habits are hard to break. Americans are always in a rush. I can say that because I am an American. However my problem is different. Most people believe I drive too slow, because I stay under the speedlimit. I donot want a speeding ticket. Don’t worry I try to stay in the right lane.
