Comments on alcohol & gasoline can be save consumption?
Gas mixed with ethanol actually gives lower gas mileage so consumption goes up.
No! Gasohol (an alcohol/gasoline mixture) gets worse mileage than pure gasoline. Gallon for gallon gasoline is more powerful than alcohol. Cars that can run either pure gasoline or E85 (85% alcohol) get 15 to 20 percent fewer miles per tank with E85 than they do with regular gasoline.
No, blended gasoline actually raises fuel consumption. Alcohol does not have near the same stored energy as straight gasoline. The 10 to 15% blend used today raises actual consumption by at least 10%. The only reason blended gas price at pump, is close to price of pure? Is the subsidy the US Government provides to producers per gallon of ethanol. Which BTW is expensive for us to make. Brazil uses sugar. We use FOOD (corn). China has already seen the error of trying to use alcohol as a fuel blend. Brazil has about the only real way to make alcohol abundant and cheaply. Without affecting food stocks nor food prices.
Until our self satisfied industrial and political hacks are removed from power? We will burn more fuel and food. Causing MORE pollution and solving nothing. Straight gasoline, at one winter and one summer blend standard, will save far more fuel. Plus increasing overall production AND lower food prices. So, it’d put a few politically correct ethanol refineries out of business. Our politico’s and elites whine about “the rich”. But, make damned sure their “approved” industries/owners get “rich.”
Check the facts behind ethanol use and it will plain tick you off.
