I’d like to get away with a smaller v8 to conserve gas, but still have get up and go. I’m not necissarily looking for a real popular model, it just has to be 2 door. Thx

I always seem to choose wrong days on which to buy gasoline. Is there a general rule of thumb for what day of the week to buy gas to generally save a little?

i just bought a kia sportage and although i like the car it has no power.it also doesn’t get more than 20 mpg in the city..whatever you save in gas you loose as soon as you try to pass or merge because you have to”press the pedal to the metal” just to begin to get up to speed. it has only a 2.0 liter engine 140 hp and 136 pound-feet of torque….
i would like to get a different car ( a cross over) but one that gets really good gas mileage and has speed to pass a car in the passing lane or trying to merge on the highway.
i have looked at hybrids but they don’t have the speed.
does anyone have any suggestions?

With the price of gas hitting $3.00/gallon and higher, options for other types of transportation are looking quite good. I can’t afford $50 every time I fill up my gas tank, come on! So in looking for ways to conserve energy, going back and forth to work offers the best option. Carpooling has been around for years, but is becoming very popular again. How do you get into one?

What amount of fuel would be saved if light trucks, including SUV’s, had to meet the same CAFÉ standards as other cars?

I know this is a dumb question, but if I’m driving and I have the A/C on in my car, does it matter if I have the fan speed on high or low? I know the A/C uses up a lot of gas and I’m trying not to use it except for when I have to, like if I have my elderly MIL in the car. Does running the fan on low save any gas or not? Thanks!

Looking at SUVs and will consider a hybrid not so much to conserve but to save on gas.
I’ve heard that there’s danger regarding accidents-rescue workers can suffer shocks from the electric batteries, and that even an owner doing a bit of self maintenance is vulnerable. My husband does our brakes and changes the oil himself to save money—any comments or dispelling of myths?
I’m thinking (not TOO seriously) of the Mercury Mariner hybrid.

Is there a math formula to use to calculate how much money can be saved on gas by slowing down?
I live almost 40 miles by the shortest route, but that means around 20 stoplights and taking back country roads. The highway route adds 15 miles and takes longer. Moving is not an option, nor is looking for a job closer to home. I have a fuel efficient vehicle, but am wondering what is the ideal speed to drive to save money, but won’t take me over an hour to get home from work after working 12-hour days. Also ride sharing is not an option either, as no one lives nearby and works the same hours.
Thanks to all who are writing. These all are great suggestions and will make it very hard to select a best answer.

It improved mileage remarkable for my previous engines about 20%. Once I saved a motor when running with a leak radiator! However, all four previous engines seemed leaking a lot of oils since using Slick 50 oil treatment. Almost one and half oil needs plus a messy ground, but 3 motors performed well until 155-175K miles and saved a lot of gasoline.
If it works successfully, then the country can save 15% motor gasoline imports.
Does any one know Slick 50 can guarantee no oil leak for engine treatment, or how does the auto engine must be altered to improve mileage by using lubrication oil like Slick-50?
Also mixing 1 quart Slick50 plus 3 quarts synthetic oil 40 or 50, then just sync oil thereafter.
