I’ve been asked if I use gas or oil
due to my questions relating to
Bush’s war for the oil…
I ride a bike or walk everywhere and
very RARELY use my car…
I need to go to town about once a month
to put in about 1/4 tank and spend about
$15 per month on gas…
I live in a very warm year round climate and
the heater is set to 60 degree’s and my gas heating
bill is about $20 per month.
How much do you spend on gas
and heating per month?
Do you conserve gas and oil like I do?

First of all because it is a limited finite resource, at least in our lifetime. It takes millions of years to create oil, natural gas, or coal so we won’t be renewing that resource for a few millenia. A Shell scientist called Hubbert predicted that we would eventually reach a peak of oil production in the world and after that, no matter how much exploration was done by oil companies, the available oil will start declining. Some people believe we may have hit that peak already.
The other reason is because we use it for so many things. Oil is used to make gasoline and diesel, but have you thought about the other products we use oil and natural gas for, plastic like polyethelene, styrene, acrylics, carpeting, roofing material, roads, rubber in tires and shoes, fertilizer, lubricants, plastic pipe in house plumbing, plastic used in computer boards, fabrics like nylon, even household detergent, and if a product isn’t made directly from oil it is probably made with the help of oil for shipping or supplying energy in its manufacture.

I bought a GEO metro over a year ago. I paid eight hundred for it and I did replace the water pump and timing belt myself because it had over 80,000 miles. I currently get around 40 mpg and to replace the tires is cheap ($120-$150). I have over 130,000 miles on it now and have not spent a lot of money on it. It is a 1995 and green but for the price and mpg that I get, I’ll drive this turtle until it dies and I can no longer fix it. Shop around and find someone that has kept up with their car and did regular maintance on it. Good luck!

I have cut my driving in general down quite a bit, but I’ve also noticed that I rarely speed anymore in an effort to conserve gas. I now routinely drive city streets at 35 mph instead of my usual 40. Some people get ticked and drive around me, but I don’t care. They don’t pay my bills and the limit is around 35-40 anyway.

We can simply reuse nonrenewable resources when they’re spent. For fossil fuels this might mean using solar and wind power to power a methane reform unit that turns carbon dioxide back into the fuel methane.
Provide major prioritization of, and funding for, initiatives to change the way people power their lives and the production of their goods. Share these initiatives with poorer countries that can’t make it happen on their own. Make it a real and global policy priority, higher even than short-term economic growth.

I’ve heard that Wal-Mart adds water to its gasoline tank and others use alcohol to dilute the gas we put in our vehicles which saves them money, is this true? Is this legal? How does this affect our vehicles? How can we know if we’re getting undiluted gasoline?

A high gas tax would be an incentive to conserve gas and oil. THis would help kick our dangerous oil addiction and total dependence on very unstable and nations that hate us. So would you welcome a federal gas tax of $2 a gallon if in turn income taxes were reduced by an equivalent fiscal amount? After all, high income taxes just discourage entreprenership and business incentive.
